University of Advancing Technology
For my project, I am working at the University of Advancing Technology (UAT) which gives me access to a variety of virtual reality programs.
My on-site mentor is Derric Clark, a professor that has specialized in game design and virtual reality for over 20 years. He is also goes by the title "Program Champion of Games Studies." I am also getting guidance from Sharon Bolman, a senior professor who has expertise about the impact of the environment on your mood. Mrs. Gelblicht, my AP psychology teacher, is my faculty mentor from BASIS who also gives me advice about how to plan and run my experiment.
The first thing I noticed when I walked in on day one was silence. No, everyone wasn't staring at me as a newbie that entered the school -- there was just no one there! At 9:00 am, the school was pretty much barren, but I later learned from the provost that the school usually doesn't come alive until around 10:00 am. Throughout the week, however, I was warmly welcomed into the UAT community, and many students and faculty were willing to help me out.
I spent the first week doing online research with the guidance from my mentors. I looked at the set-up and design of other experiments regarding virtual technology in healthcare, and I tested some of the UAT Technology. According to the UAT website, "The New Technology Lab includes work stations for Apple Development, Mobile Development, Game Development, Virtual Reality, Mind Control and Motion Control."
I got to test out the HTC Vive in a program called "TiltBrush," a 3D painting application. Drawing in 3D was awesome! You can even use the controllers to change the paintbrush to a variety of textures, including "lightning" and "neon."

Seems like there are a lot of cool and interesting things going on at the UAT. It is great they are sharing their expertise and wonderful resources with you. Virtual reality seems to be at an exciting place with its increased accessibility.
